Job Summary

A compassionate and motivated Nursing Associate is required to join our healthcare team at HMP Chelmsford.

As a Nursing Associate within the prison service, you will work as an effective member of the Pharmacy team, providing healthcare services, including medication administration to patients.

You will assist in delivering a high-quality pharmacy service, providing medicines management services to help tackle identified inequalities within the prison.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Administer medication in accordance with local SOPs.
  2. Assist with implementing and developing pharmacy support to all residential wings in the prison.
  3. Maintain clear and comprehensive records both written and electronic.
  4. Regularly monitor and update medication charts, removing out-of-date prescriptions, and ensure timely prescription renewals from prescribers.
  5. Reconcile medicines daily for all prisoners admitted directly from the Courts or via internal transfer from another prison.
  6. Undertake risk assessments of prisoners relating to In-Possession medication.
  7. Collect orders from suppliers at the Main Gate and arrange collection of returns, participating in dispensing prescriptions.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build and develop relationships.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Confidence and capability for autonomous practice.
  • Registered Nursing Associate or awaiting PIN membership or about to qualify.
  • Experience in a Prison environment highly desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
