We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team at Coventry Building Society. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for making informed lending decisions on residential and buy-to-let mortgage applications.
Key Responsibilities- Exercise discretion over lending policy to ensure that our lending decisions are sound and in line with our risk appetite.
- Provide senior underwriting expertise on complex and high-value cases, making final decisions while ensuring the quality of our lending book.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers, providing coaching and training to enhance underwriting and customer service capabilities.
- Persuade and influence up to executive level, providing robust justification for lending decisions and building confidence in the quality of underwriting conducted by the department.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience in residential and BTL mortgage underwriting, with a specialization in self-employed and special purpose vehicle underwriting being advantageous.
- Current knowledge of mortgage markets, products, regulatory requirements, and the changing climate of demands surrounding credit risk and financial crime.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively up to senior manager/executive level.
- A positive and proactive approach, with the ability to challenge policies, processes, and procedures when necessary.
