Nurse Leader for Cardiothoracic Surgery

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking an experienced nurse leader to join our cardiothoracic surgery team as Matron. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support the cardiothoracic surgical wards in Barts Heart and Thorax Centre, while contributing to the site nursing leadership team and undertaking site-wide duties and responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have extensive nurse leadership and operational experience in an acute care specialty, preferably within a cardiac setting. They will be able to motivate and develop all teams of nursing staff, prioritize objectives and workload, and deliver on key performance indicators.

About the Role

The Matron will be responsible for leading the cardiothoracic surgical wards, supporting the non-ward based nursing roles, and contributing to the site nursing leadership team. They will also be expected to undertake site-wide duties and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead and support the cardiothoracic surgical wards
  2. Support the non-ward based nursing roles
  3. Contribute to the site nursing leadership team
  4. Undertake site-wide duties and responsibilities

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Band 7 lead/manager in surgery or relevant acute care area
  • Experience supporting patients on complex care pathways
  • Contributing to policies and protocols
