The Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and selling PPA-funded and customer-funded solar projects to medium to large industrial and commercial customers. This is a key role in our Business Development Team, working closely with our technical and finance teams to generate compelling business cases for quality solar projects and close opportunities.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a well-defined sales strategy for selling our solar proposition to new business customers across targeted industry sectors in the UK.
  • Lead sales opportunities, including leading a bid team, driving the sales process from plan to close, achieving growth, and hitting sales targets, revenue objectives, and product penetration for new prospects.
  • Grow and manage a pipeline and opportunities, reporting to management on a regular basis an accurate view of pipeline, forecasting, and actions to achieve closure.
  • Negotiate and secure client contracts, maximising commercial opportunity while minimising risk for Shawton Energy.
  • Qualify opportunities through early analysis by collecting data and detailed information from customers.
  • Support customers through energy industry experience and provide appropriate advice.
  • Work with introduction partners and lead generation businesses to identify new opportunities.
  • Provide customer insight back to the business to help develop our proposition to the marketplace.
  • Proactively build credibility by continually developing technical, industry, segment, and market knowledge.
  • Identify and engage in industry forums, networking opportunities, and LinkedIn to strengthen market presence.
Requirements
  • A proven new business development specialist with strong evidence of success in this area, including the ability to hit annual revenue/MW objectives.
  • Proven ability to self-generate opportunities as well as work with leads generated by Shawton Energy's lead generation engine.
  • Ability to sell solar in the I&C market is a must.
  • A proven track record of selling medium to larger scale solar projects in the UK across a range of different sectors is preferable.
  • Experience in multi-site project development is an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of selling solar through a funded route such as Power Purchase Agreements is desirable.
  • Experience of working with customers at C-suite level selling complex solutions is desirable.
  • Possess strong analytical ability and be able to interpret complex energy data and pricing structures.
  • Technical and business knowledge related to solar PV.
  • Experience of negotiation of complex contracts.
  • First-class sales and negotiation skills with the ability to develop and deliver professional sales proposals.
  • Experience of a formal theoretical sales methodology is desirable.
  • Strong bid and tender management experience would be desirable.
  • Strong pipeline management skills and working with CRM systems.
  • Passion for the energy industry and behind-the-meter energy solutions.
  • Ownership, management, and delivery of the end-to-end sales process.
  • Adhere to a code of professional conduct and ethical qualifications.
  • An excellent understanding of the UK energy system.
  • Excellent internal stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, showing the ability to take complex solutions and communicate based on the audience.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Energetic personality, self-driven, and highly motivated to succeed.
About the Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an established new business hunter in the UK solar industry to join a fast-growing and dynamic energy generation business. Your experience and knowledge will help form the strategy to grow our portfolio of both PPA-funded and customer-funded solar projects for medium to large industrial and commercial customers. We have a strong team of experts capable of becoming a market leader for delivering flexible energy systems.

Package – Salary dependent on experience, home-based with home office equipment provided, car allowance, healthcare, and pension provided after qualifying period. Bonus payable on a % of the value of either size of PPA or the value of a customer-funded solution. Typically, commission on 1 MWp PPA project is £20k. Uncapped.
