About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior to Principal Bat Ecologist to join our busy ecology department within our Exeter office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex projects and provide technical advice to clients across various aspects of ecology.
  • Develop and implement effective survey techniques, wildlife legislation, and protected species licensing strategies.
  • Advise clients on Biodiversity Net Gain, including production of Biodiversity Impact Assessments (BIA) and use of the DEFRA metric.
  • Produce high-quality reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) documents, and Species and Habitat Management Plans.
  • Collaborate with the ecology team to share knowledge and best practices, and contribute to the development of the team.
Requirements
  • Degree-level or equivalent academic qualification in Ecology or a related field.
  • Full Membership of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or other similar professional body.
  • Level 2 Bat Licence.
  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience with excellent client liaison skills.
  • Good knowledge of best practice survey techniques, relevant wildlife legislation, and protected species licensing.
  • Advanced knowledge of ecology and wildlife protection in the context of the UK planning system.
  • Experience of advising clients on Biodiversity Net Gain, including production of Biodiversity Impact Assessments (BIA) and use of the DEFRA metric.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
