Job Title: Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children


Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children to join our team. The successful candidate will provide clinical expertise and strategic leadership to our safeguarding children services.



About the Role:

The Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children will take a strategic and professional lead for safeguarding children across Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin. This includes providing clinical advice and supervision to paediatricians and other medical practitioners, as well as supporting the development of safeguarding policies and procedures.


The successful candidate will have a strong background in paediatric medicine and safeguarding, with experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team. They will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the complexities of safeguarding children and be able to provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues.



Key Responsibilities:

  2. Provide clinical advice and supervision to paediatricians and other medical practitioners
  3. Support the development of safeguarding policies and procedures
  4. Collaborate with other professionals to ensure effective safeguarding practices
  5. Contribute to the development of quality assurance systems across the health economy
  6. Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues


Person Specification:

We are looking for a candidate with:



  • GMC registration and active registration in paediatric medicine
  • Experience of working in a safeguarding role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to provide expert advice and guidance

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in paediatric medicine and safeguarding, with experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team. They will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the complexities of safeguarding children and be able to provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues.
