About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Art Lead to join our team at Jagex Limited. As a key member of our game development team, you will be responsible for leading the technical art team and ensuring that the artistic and creative vision for our games are not compromised by technical limitations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead and foster the development of a team of technical artists, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure the team's success.
  • Quality Standards: Drive quality standards and ensure that all content meets technical specifications while hitting art direction criteria.
  • Best Practices: Lead others on best practice, including defining and documenting game or engine technical specifications and driving workflow optimizations.
  • Tool Development: Strategically plan and deliver professional quality tools and scripts for art packages or tools that extend to the game engine.
  • Documentation: Author and maintain scripts, tools, or documentation for external asset production.
  • Framework Development: Build, document, and maintain a robust framework on which to build the game's foundation.
  • Technical Expertise: Be the 'go to' technical expertise point of contact between code and art, feeding back to the game engineers on system needs and improvements.
  • Problem Solving: Effectively debug and correct complex, interconnected problems with cross-discipline dependencies.
  • Visual Innovation: Investigate and champion new techniques that push visual innovation while adhering to art direction and game engine parameters.
Requirements
  • Experience: Proven experience as a lead technical artist on games developed in Unreal Engine or similar game engines.
  • Visual Focus: A keen eye for visual focus, quality, and an understanding of how to follow and uphold key art direction and vision.
  • Scripting: Teaching and mentoring proficiency in scripting languages such as Mel, PyMel, PyQT, Python, C#, and LUA.
  • High-Level Shaders: Experience with or exposure to high-level shader languages such as glsl, hlsl, and cgfx with the ability to optimize surfacing.
  • Performance Tracking: Demonstrable experience with performance tracking in games.
  • Platform Requirements: Expert understanding and significant experience of different platform requirements.
  • Content Creation: Excellent knowledge in modern content creation applications (Maya, Substance, Z-brush, Houdini, Photoshop, etc).
  • Development Pipelines: Deep experience of end-to-end modern development pipelines in 3D asset creation, VFX, and animation.
  • Code Optimization: Ability to script and plan code for efficient re-use and extensibility adhering to coding standards.
  • Optimization Techniques: Proven experience of optimization techniques and robust memory budget management.
