Gastroenterology Support Assistant

Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gastroenterology Team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital as a Housekeeper on Kimberley Ward.
The hospital is a 37-bedded ward specializing in Gastroenterology, nursing a range of Gastroenterology disorders/diseases including liver disease, bowel disorders, anorexia nervosa, those needing medical detox from alcohol, and also a range of people needing various forms of enteral feeding.
Alongside these conditions, the team works very closely with several specialist nursing teams, including the Nutrition Support Team, Substance Misuse, Liver, IBD, and Mental Health teams. The Gastro Team also provides specialist medical care for those with eating disorders.
Main Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Nursing Staff, the post holder will participate as an integral member of the departmental team, undertaking general housekeeping duties, including some direct patient contact, to help provide a quality service.
To support the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People-focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a working rapport with nursing, medical, technical, ancillary, and administration colleagues.
They will also be responsible for helping with cleaning and maintaining tidiness in all areas, assisting with the cleaning of all equipment, and quality testing of specialized equipment.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment at ward level, reporting and ensuring accurate records are kept and equipment retrieved and returned as necessary.
They will also be responsible for checking linen allocation daily, reporting any problems to the Ward Coordinator, and liaising with the linen room to rectify problems.
The candidate will also be responsible for checking emergency equipment is available by all beds, oxygen tubing, masks, suction, and checking oxygen and suction is working correctly and ensuring portable oxygen cylinders are full.
Other responsibilities include ensuring adequate stocks of items are in areas as required, assisting with the ordering of stores and stationery supplies, and promoting a safe working environment.
