Procurement Category Specialist

The RoleAs a Procurement Category Specialist, you will be responsible for providing category ownership across 3M businesses and divisions, serving as a procurement category specialist for converting and pack out services across 3rd party manufacturing and hard goods. You will drive supplier consolidation, help 3M and the procurement organization meet its cost savings and working capital goals, and minimize total product and process cost by initiating cost reduction efforts and facilitating the implementation of innovative procurement best practices.
Your Responsibilities- Provide category ownership across 3M businesses and divisions

- Minimize total product and process cost by initiating cost reduction efforts and facilitating the implementation of innovative procurement best practices
- Lead supplier selection and own external supplier relationships as the key point of contact for 3M, leading negotiations, being part of effective NPI launches, and managing complex supplier relationships
- Identify, lead, and implement solutions for complex and multi-faceted situations regarding dual-sourcing, negotiation, category strategy, supplier management, and external sources of supply
- Determine and lead opportunities for process improvements that improve service, speed, or cost, through analysis of procurement information and metrics, including navigating complex situations and managing multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Develop strong partnerships with suppliers and internal 3M stakeholders, including manufacturing, R&D, marketing, finance, and supply chain operations
- Implement and negotiate agreements to cover complex supply relationships, which may include VMI (vendor-managed inventory), consigned materials, formula-based pricing, etc.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent experience, and previous experience in sourcing, procurement, logistics, supply chain, engineering, and/or manufacturing in a private, public, government, or military environment. You will also need to be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed in this role include experience in procurement, especially with contract manufacturers, strong negotiation and contracting skills, initiative, self-starter with a positive and proactive approach, project management experience, experience successfully collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on complex projects, and financial acumen and comfort with conducting business analytics.
