Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dedicated nurse to join our Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) team as a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a band 6 developmental role with the opportunity to undertake relevant training and education with progression to band 7 on completion of ACCEND capabilities in practice (CIPs).

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated, flexible, and resilient nurse to provide individualised patient-centred care for those who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. The successful candidate will work with the guidance and support of the CNS matrons and wider CNS teams to deliver high-quality care and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support patients and colleagues at breaking bad news and through the investigation/staging pathway
  • Contribute to the personalised care of the patient, providing appropriate information and advice to patients and others affected by cancer
  • Provide a responsive service to queries and concerns, triaging and making appropriate clinical decisions, working within your limitations and referring to senior colleagues as necessary
  • Signpost and refer to services appropriately, such as counselling and palliative care
  • Provide support to junior members of the team
  • Liaise effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary teams, including oncology, stoma care, and ERP
  • Provide cross-cover across disease site teams as required
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with the CNS teams across UHSx and with our partner organisations
  • Be a support and mentor to junior staff members
  • Contribute to service development, including developing appropriate KPIs that are measurable and demonstrate service improvement
