Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our dynamic team as a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) service. This is a band 6 developmental role that offers the opportunity to undertake relevant training and education with progression to band 7 on completion of ACCEND capabilities in practice (CIPs).

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated, flexible, and resilient band 6 cancer nurse specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide individualised patient-centred care for those who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, working closely with the guidance and support of the CNS matrons and wider CNS teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support patients and colleagues at breaking bad news and through the investigation/staging pathway
  • Contribute to the personalised care of the patient, providing appropriate information and advice to patients and others affected by cancer
  • Provide a responsive service to queries and concerns, triaging and making appropriate clinical decisions, working within your limitations and referring to senior colleagues as necessary
  • Signpost and refer to services appropriately, such as counselling and palliative care
  • Provide support to junior members of the team
  • Liaise effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary teams, including oncology, stoma care, and ERP
  • Provide cross-cover across disease site teams as required
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with the CNS teams across UHSx and with our partner organisations
  • Be a support and mentor to junior staff members
  • Contribute to service development, including developing appropriate KPIs that are measurable and demonstrate service improvement
