Quantum Systems Research Engineer

Toshiba EMEA is at the forefront of R&D in quantum technology, with a strong focus on quantum communications and quantum key distribution (QKD). Our team has made significant breakthroughs in recent years, including record-high quantum communication bit rates, operation over international-length-scale fibers, and classical-quantum network integration.
We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum Systems Research Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Cambridge Research Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will play a leading role in the design and development of next-generation quantum communication technologies.
Key Responsibilities:- Architect and integrate complete quantum communication system prototypes
- Develop and test FPGA firmware for controlling optoelectronic components and data processing at GHz speeds
- Integrate and test complete electronic control systems based on custom PCBs
- Collaborate with Research Scientists and Engineers to test and evaluate prototypes
- Write scientific reports and design documentation
- Degree-level qualification in science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with high-speed electronics, PCBs, and FPGA concepts
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work across technical domains
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- PhD in a related discipline or experience in research environments
- Knowledge of systems engineering and integration
- Experience with FPGA development and IP block integration
- Knowledge of RF and mixed-signal electronic circuit design and test
- Competence in one or more software programming languages and Linux
