About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Estimator to join our team at Recra Consulting. As a Trainee Estimator, you will play a crucial role in assisting our experienced estimators in preparing bids and proposals for construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in Quantity Takeoffs: Collaborate with our team to perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Estimate Steel Costs: Learn to estimate the cost of structural steel based on industry standards and pricing guidelines, developing your skills in cost estimation and analysis.
  • Support Bid Preparation: Assist in preparing bids and proposals for construction projects, working closely with our experienced estimators to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
  • Risk Assessment: Develop skills in risk assessment to identify potential uncertainties in estimating steel costs, enabling us to make informed decisions and mitigate risks.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Support the documentation and reporting process, maintaining accurate records of estimates and project details, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Client Meetings: Shadow and assist senior estimators in client meetings, enhancing your communication and relationship-building skills, and developing a deeper understanding of our clients' needs and expectations.
  • Industry Knowledge: Continuously learn about steel fabrication processes, installation techniques, and industry best practices, staying up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in the field.
  • Cost Control: Provide support in cost control activities, assisting in monitoring project costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities, and contributing to the development of cost-effective solutions.
  • Ongoing Training: Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance your knowledge and skills in the field, and stay ahead of industry developments and best practices.
Requirements
  • Strong Interest in Construction Industry: A strong interest in the construction industry, specifically in steel estimation, and a desire to develop your skills and knowledge in this area.
  • Basic Knowledge of Construction Drawings: Basic knowledge of construction drawings and specifications, and an understanding of the importance of accuracy and attention to detail in this field.
  • Mathematical and Analytical Skills: Good mathematical and analytical skills, and the ability to apply these skills in a practical and effective manner.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications, and the ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and organization skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team and with clients.
