Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Cost Manager to join our dynamic and award-winning Cost Management team in our Cambridge office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting on feasibility studies, estimating and cost planning, tendering and procuring, and dealing with post-contract cost variances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist on feasibility studies and write procurement reports
  • Estimate and cost plan, including producing and presenting the final cost plan
  • Tender and procure, including managing the pre-qualification stage, producing the tender list, putting the preliminaries together, tender analysis, producing the tender report, and compiling the contractual documents
  • Deal effectively with post-contract cost variances and the change control processes, referring major changes to the line manager
  • Take personal responsibility for making cost checks and carrying out valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate cost checking and valuation
  • Produce monthly post-contract cost reports and present them to the client
  • Input into value engineering
  • Negotiate and agree final accounts
  • Interface with the client and other consultants at all project stages
  • Lead a cost management team, ensuring they deliver on all accountabilities

Requirements

  • Good technical grounding in all main areas of cost management and contractor background
  • Experience of acting as Commission Manager on small to medium-sized projects or sufficient related experience to enable a step-up to performing the role of Commission Manager
  • Good knowledge of main procurement methods and their application with respect to the 'tactical procurement' of small to medium-sized buildings
  • Knowledge and understanding of value engineering
  • Experience of utilising a range of industry-standard processes and systems to effectively deliver a project
  • Professionally qualified (RICS or similar)
  • Degree or HNC level qualification
  • Ability to successfully manage and prioritise more than one project at a time
