Job Title: Tobacco Dependency Advisor - Maternity

Job Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tobacco Dependency Advisor to join our Maternity Team at North Middlesex University Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing specialist advice and support to pregnant patients to help them quit smoking during their pregnancy and beyond.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized stop smoking support to pregnant patients using evidence-based interventions such as carbon monoxide monitoring, behavioral support, and nicotine replacement therapy.
  • Act as a smoke-free champion promoting the Trust's smoke-free policy and message through your day-to-day work.
  • Work closely with the Smoke-Free Midwife Champion to deliver the Smoke-Free Pregnancy Project and provide regular feedback on smoking in pregnancy data.
  • Work independently with patients, recognizing when to defer to a more senior member of staff for advice and support.
  • Ensure robust follow-up and discharge planning for patients' ongoing tobacco dependency treatment.

As a Tobacco Dependency Advisor, you will be working in a dynamic and supportive environment with a team of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of our patients. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pregnant women and their families by helping them overcome tobacco dependency.

Requirements:

  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
  • A level or equivalent standard of education/practical experience.
  • Level 2 Stop Smoking Adviser qualification (or working towards).
  • NCSCT speciality module: Pregnancy and Post-partum.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Specific training in health promotion/behavior change interventions.
  • NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme for Pregnant Women.
  • Very brief advice on smoking for pregnant women.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • A good level of understanding of evidence-based practice and guidelines in relation to smoking cessation.
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with professionals/individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with excellent spoken and written English.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload and coordinate own schedule without direct supervision.

Experience:

  • Experience in a patient-facing role.
  • Worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
