About the Role

We are seeking a highly capable Sustainability and Carbon specialist to lead our team in Manchester. As a Principal Sustainability and Carbon Consultant, you will be responsible for embedding sustainability into large-scale infrastructure projects and corporate strategies.

Our Sustainability and Carbon team advises clients on how they can decarbonise their activities alongside increasing performance across other areas of sustainability. Some of our work includes industry-leading Decarbonisation / Net Zero Roadmaps, Whole Life Carbon Assessments, Sustainability Assessments, TCFD, and Carbon Accountancy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading on carbon, sustainability, and net zero for our existing portfolio of major infrastructure projects and strategic clients.
  • Developing innovative carbon and sustainability strategies, designs, solutions, and management plans.
  • Project managing and coordinating sustainability inputs on major infrastructure projects.
  • Representing the company at external networks and building personal, team, and company reputation.
  • Leading and supporting bid proposals, helping to author our submissions and ensuring win themes are retained throughout.
  • Leading the Manchester/Northern team of sustainability and carbon specialists, providing line management duties and supporting team development.

Requirements:

  • Education to degree level in an environmental/engineering related discipline and chartered with a recognised relevant professional body.
  • Prior experience and up-to-date knowledge in carbon accounting, decarbonisation/net zero roadmaps, sustainability assessments, whole life carbon, sustainability reporting, sustainability strategy, and supply chain engagement.
  • Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills tailored to a range of audiences, seniorities, and technical competencies.
  • Understanding of UK sustainability and carbon guidance and standards used within infrastructure and in corporate reporting, across both the public and private sector.
  • Eagerness to lead, support, and develop direct reports within a team.
