Lead Nurse for Endoscopy Services

As a Lead Nurse for Endoscopy Services, you will be responsible for supporting the smooth running of the department, ensuring high-quality patient care and promoting a positive work environment.
We are seeking an experienced Endoscopy nurse with a strong background in team leadership, who can effectively coordinate inpatient and outpatient flow, manage staffing levels, and undertake various tasks as required. The successful candidate will also receive training in Endoscopy-related information, HR tasks, audit work, and other skills necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the unit.
Main Responsibilities
- To deputise for the Ward Manager and liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective patient care delivery.
- Communicate proactively with staff on patient conditions and treatment plans, ensuring accurate nursing records are maintained.
- Support others in coordinating discharge processes, providing written and verbal advice to patients' relatives and carers.
- Actively involve others in communications between patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain professional, clinical, and patient safety by adhering to Trust/unit and ward policies.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of good hand hygiene and environmental cleaning practices, applying principles of infection control and cross-infection prevention.
- Plan duty rotas to meet clinical area requirements, taking into account skill mix needs, acuity, and dependency.
- Initiate emergency treatments, coordinating other staff in this process.
- Ensure all staff are aware of emergency procedures and protocols.
- Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care, adhering to Trust and departmental protocols.
- Maintain high standards of nursing care, regularly reviewing and updating these standards.
- Involve patients, relatives, and carers in their treatment, encouraging individuals to assist in their own recovery.
- Carefully manage medication and controlled drugs used for patient care, being aware of systems for safe administration, ordering, and maintenance of stock.
Education, Training & Development
- Develop a well-rounded clinical understanding and practice with effective assessment skills.
- Provide clinical advice to staff, carers, and junior colleagues, promoting clinical practice and reducing risk to patients.
- Participate in clinical training, including teaching and supervision of new staff, unqualified staff, and student nurses in the ward environment.
- Support education and development of all staff, including students.
- Take part in education and training programs, feeding back knowledge gained.
- Identify own clinical competency deficits, education, and development needs through participation in the Trust appraisal process.
Management Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Department Manager.
- Assist in workforce planning, supporting and participating in recruitment and retention of staff under the direction of the Ward Manager/Matron.
- Respect patients', relatives', and colleagues' privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate sensitive/difficult information, providing subsequent support to patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues as needed.
- Ensure medical equipment is kept in a safe condition, ready for use when required, and report faulty equipment as necessary.
- Orientate new staff to the ward, helping to plan the ward/departmental orientation program.
- Contribute to annual Training Needs Analysis, communicated to the manager for Education.
- Represent the team and organization at professional meetings, feeding back information appropriately.
- Undertake performance reviews and return-to-work interviews under the direction of the Ward/Department Manager.
- Participate and lead in Nursing and Clinical Audit on the ward.
Salary
The salary range for this position is approximately £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience. This figure is based on national averages and may vary depending on individual circumstances.
