The Macmillan Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team is seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join their team as a Macmillan Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a temporary position that will provide support to patients with brain and rare central nervous system tumours, pituitary tumours, skull base tumours, and spinal tumours.
The successful candidate will work closely with consultant neurosurgeons and oncologists, as well as other members of the multi-disciplinary team, to provide a holistic service to patients and their families. This will involve direct contact with patients and carers, providing advice and ongoing support, as well as liaising with other team members to ensure timely information and care.
The post holder will also be involved in the development of services for neuro-oncology patients and their carers, working alongside the rest of the team. This is a varied role that will provide opportunities to work in different environments across both hospital sites and to develop skills in caring for patients undergoing surgery and oncology treatment for tumours of the brain and central nervous system.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct care and support to patients and their families
- Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure timely information and care
- Develop and implement services for neuro-oncology patients and their carers
- Collaborate with consultant neurosurgeons and oncologists to provide holistic care
- Provide education and training to other healthcare professionals
- Post-basic qualification in Neurosciences (Neurosurgery or Neurology) / cancer / palliative care or relevant subject
- Experience of working in Neurosciences (Neurosurgery or Neurology), cancer or palliative care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Leadership and motivational skills
