Job Summary

The Deputy Head of Nursing role is a critical position within our community team, responsible for assessing nursing care needs, developing and implementing programs, and upholding our standards of care. This role ensures uniformity of nursing care across all community services and equitable access to care for all patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver high standards of effective care for patients with specialist palliative care needs.
  • Promote a caring and sensitive approach to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Oversight of community team staffing levels and skill mix to meet patient care needs.
  • Line management responsibility for Clinical Nurse Specialists, Palliative Specialist Nurses, and Hospice at Home Team Leader.
  • Create an environment that encourages professional learning and supports a culture of continual learning and reflective practice.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A First level Registered Nurse qualification.
  • A First degree in an appropriate subject.
  • An appropriate post-basic qualification in end-of-life/palliative care.
  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience.

The candidate should demonstrate:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive leadership skills.

Desirable skills include:

  • Advanced symptom management skills.

The candidate should have:

  • Experience of successfully managing people as a senior post-holder.
  • Extensive experience working as a community nurse.
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of providing formal and informal teaching and developing nursing practice.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Management and leadership experience.
