Job Title: Senior Support Worker

Job Summary:

The Senior Support Worker plays a vital role in providing guidance, support, and encouragement to young people in a variety of settings, including classroom, education, and off-site activities. This position involves enabling our young people to develop by providing physical and emotional support, while maintaining a stable, happy, and caring environment that prioritizes their health, safety, and welfare.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Build Positive Relationships: Establish and maintain good professional relationships with young people and other staff members, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  2. Maintain a Safe Environment: Ensure the residential area is safe, clean, and enjoyable for young people, including domestic duties and adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
  3. Support Young People's Needs: Know and actively promote young people's specific needs, helping to meet those needs in the most appropriate way, following all relevant policies and procedures.
  4. Medical and Welfare Support: Assist young people with their medical and welfare needs, reporting as required, and administering medication as necessary.
  5. Personal Care and Hygiene: Help young people maintain their personal cleanliness, general hygiene, and appearance, including intimate care and invasive care when trained.
  6. Communication and Information Systems: Keep up to date with and actively promote various communication and information systems.
  7. Meetings and Reviews: Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate, including review meetings with key young people and acting as an advocate where required.
  8. Activity Planning and Supervision: Be actively involved in the effective planning, preparation, supervision, and review of all routines, social, and recreational activities, on and off site, for students and the waking day curriculum.
  9. Mentorship and Supervision: Give constructive feedback to support workers to improve their performance, and be a mentor as part of regular supervision and an annual appraisal.
  10. Safeguarding and Reporting: Notify management promptly of any matters relevant to the well-being of young people, and do everything possible to safeguard them from any form of abuse.
Person Specification:

For new appointments, a selection panel will assess each of the points below against what you have written on the application form. As a job applicant, you should explain, by using examples from previous jobs, voluntary work, or while you were in education, how you match these points.

  2. Qualification: Level 3 RQF certificate in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.

The Senior Support Worker supervises Support Workers and is part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team comprising a Registered Manager for the whole service, with a Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager in each home.
