Senior Midwife

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior midwife to join our team as a clinical leader on the Labour Ward at our Stoke Mandeville site. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the ward and leading a small team of midwives, including their appraisals and personal development plans.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a logical approach to working, and a thorough and accurate approach to their work. They will also have a strong commitment to providing compassionate and personalized care to women, babies, and their families.
The role will involve managing the clinical area of responsibility, assessing the full range of care needs, and developing, implementing, and evaluating programs of care in the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. The successful candidate will also be responsible for mentoring new qualified and junior midwives and other staff, providing leadership within the practice environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the clinical area of responsibility
- Assess the full range of care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programs of care
- Mentor new qualified and junior midwives and other staff
- Provide leadership within the practice environment
Person Specification
- Excellent communication skills
- Logical approach to working, thorough and accurate
- Treats all with compassion and kindness
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures
- Understanding of risk management processes
- Awareness and knowledge of audit, quality, and service improvement
Desirable Criteria
- Willing to undertake further study
Skills/Knowledge
- Understanding of learning and teaching styles and their application
- Clinical skills, including perineal suturing and IV cannulation
- Awareness and respect for colleagues, patients, and relatives' cultural, religious, and emotional needs and beliefs
- Demonstrates effective management in the clinical environment
- Good verbal and written English, evidenced at interview or IELTs level 7 or above
- IT literate on Microsoft Office and Excel
- Excellent communication skills with all members of the team, patients, and relatives
Experience
- At least 2 years as a band 6
- Ability to mentor students
- Appraisal experience
- Evidence of further continued professional development
