Transport Operations Manager

Reports To: Depot Manager
Brief Overview:
Managing the day-to-day running of a fast-paced distribution operation, ensuring efficient delivery of goods to customers. Key responsibilities include staff engagement, training, management, and progression, as well as legal and internal audit compliance.
Core Duties:
- Coordinate and control the daily delivery schedule to meet customer demands.
- Regularly review and update the delivery service charter to ensure high-quality service standards.
- Delegate work to staff and manage their workload to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.
- Conduct delivery crew debriefs to collect and communicate relevant information.
- Arrange and control the Preventative Maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles.
- Maintain the condition of delivery equipment and arrange for necessary repairs.
- Monitor tachograph records and implement improvement plans where necessary.
- Implement and enforce Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Analyse data to monitor performance and plan improvements.
- Oversee the recruitment of new staff, including interviews, training, and inductions.
- Ensure adequate staff levels to cover absences and peaks in workload.
- Promote staff development, training, and disciplinary matters.
- Administer holiday requests and absence monitoring.
Additional Duties:
- Collaborate with the Stock/Warehouse team to ensure depot output targets are met.
- Regularly communicate with the office and sales teams to achieve common goals.
- Hold key holder responsibilities.
- Visit customer sites as required.
- Assist the Depot Manager and Warehouse Manager with monthly H&S audits.
Key Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for spreadsheets and records. Full use of the 'Trinity' system and Cyber query, with training provided where necessary. Ability to work as part of a team or independently, with good communication skills essential. Planning and Organisation skills are also required, as well as the ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment. Specialist knowledge/experience of Multi-drop transport operations is desirable.
Essential Requirements:
Transport Manager CPC, IOSH, and previous experience managing an 'O' License fleet are essential requirements for this role.
