Job Overview

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the undergraduate medical education program in Neurology. As the Undergraduate Medical Education Lead for Neurology, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering educational programs that support medical learners in developing their clinical and communication competencies.

Main Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum of partner medical schools and the levels of knowledge expected in each year of study.
  • Timetable Coordination: Coordinate timetables to ensure medical learners can meet curriculum requirements.
  • Education Program Planning: Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of structured timetables for all medical learners.
  • Quality Educational Attachments: Ensure quality educational attachments/experiences for undergraduate medical learners.
  • Teaching and Feedback: Deliver varied modes of teaching, such as classroom-based case-based discussions, bedside teaching, simulation, and a multi-disciplinary team approach to learning. Provide feedback to medical learners and clinical teachers.
  • Inductions and Evaluations: Lead inductions and the evaluation process of clinical placements.
  • Performance Management: Address any performance or behavior concerns as appropriate, together with the undergraduate education manager.
  • Pastoral Support: Contribute to the pastoral welfare and provide support to medical learners.
  • Meetings and Committees: Attend various meetings/committees as required locally and at partner medical schools.
  • Educational Environment: Monitor the overall educational environment to identify issues in terms of learner capacity, provision of facilities, equipment, learning resources, and teachers.
  • Learner Feedback: Evaluate learner feedback on their experiences, consolidate examples of good practice, and communicate and help address areas of concern.
  • Examination Duties: Act as a site lead or examiner at medical student clinical exams.
Person Specification
  • Full GMC Registration: Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Consultant or SAS Doctor Experience: Significant experience as a Consultant or SAS doctor.
  • Medical Education Experience: Significant experience in medical education development and delivery.
  • Knowledge of Medical Education: Awareness of recent changes in the delivery of medical education locally.
  • Teaching Experience: Evidence of delivering well-evaluated teaching sessions/tutorials.
