Job Overview

As a key member of the design team at BlueGate Consulting, the Electronics Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of new products and the maintenance and upgrading of existing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronic products from conception to volume manufacture, ensuring technical, cost, and product brief requirements are met.
  • Manage design projects, including schematic, PCB layout, mechanical, and software design, as well as specification of microcontrollers for embedded systems and programming in C.
  • Ensure full test and validation of designs to specification before release for manufacture, and test and report for compliance to relevant standards.
  • Develop production test solutions and lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and support New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers to select cost-effective technologies and aid junior engineers in developing their skills.
  • Provide engineering support to other parts of the business as required.

Requirements

  • Education to degree level in electronics.
  • Experience in design for manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital circuits and PCB layout.
  • Programming skills in C for embedded design (STM32) and Python for testing solutions.
  • Practical experience in hand-building and debugging prototype circuits.

Desirable Skills

  • Programming skills in VB/VBA.
  • Knowledge of LEDs for lighting applications, lighting controls and sensors, SMPS, battery charging, and EMC.
