Social Worker – Permanence / Fostering / Special Guardianship

Our team at Torbay Council is seeking a skilled and experienced Social Worker to join our Children's Services division. As a Foster Care Specialist, you will work with foster carers and their families to provide intensive support, enabling them to create nurturing environments for vulnerable children.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent recording and report writing skills, IT expertise, and the ability to work flexibly as part of a duty rota. They should be able to manage a caseload, undertake monthly supervision visits, and forge effective working relationships with children's social workers and front-line teams.

A good understanding of the needs of cared-for children and transferable assessment skills are essential. Direct experience within the fostering sector is preferred.

This role requires an Enhanced Criminal Record Check and the ability to fulfill all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

About the Role

This full-time permanent position involves delivering intensive support to foster carers and their families. The successful candidate will work in accordance with the Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011 and the Fostering Services National Minimum Standards 2011.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake monthly supervision visits to a manageable caseload of foster carers
  • Undertake unannounced visits to ensure the welfare of looked-after children
  • Help with training delivery and support groups for foster carers
  • Forge effective working relationships with children's social workers and front-line teams
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Social Work qualification e.g. Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent
  • Current Registration Certificate from Social Work England
  • Extensive post-qualifying experience working in childcare services
  • Direct work with children, young people, families, and professionals
Salary and Benefits
