About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at GSL Education. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work in a forward-thinking primary school, providing emotional and academic support to children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop essential life skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create inclusive lesson plans, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
  • Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents, helping to identify areas for improvement and develop targeted strategies.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Help students manage their behaviour through positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs, with a strong understanding of the challenges and complexities involved.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • Adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
