The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the University Hospital Hairmyres acute stroke service for an Assistant Practitioner to provide ongoing rehabilitation to patients while in hospital and supporting efficient discharge planning. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Practitioner who has experience of working within a rehabilitation setting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working under the supervision of registered therapy staff to assist patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals.
  • Undertaking baseline assessments within clearly defined parameters for the identified service.
  • Implementing, adapting and progressing treatment programmes within agreed protocols and defined parameters.
  • Utilizing specialist technical and practical skills to deliver flexible, patient-centred programmes across a variety of clinical settings.
  • Discharging or transitioning care within agreed protocols and defined parameters.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Practitioner to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Formal qualification at HNC Level or equivalent level of experience in a health/education/social care environment, plus short specialist courses relevant to specific clinical areas.
  • Awareness of health legislation relevant to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge of the clinical speciality/area process, techniques and/or activities relevant to the client group.
  • Ability to apply a range of technical and practical skills.
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management, planning and organisational skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and develop new skills and maintain a record of learning.
Desirable Qualifications

A car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence would be an advantage.

Contract Details

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week.

Location and Working Pattern

The role will be based in Occupational Therapy within University Hospital Hairmyres.
