About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to work at an Alternative Provision in East Riding of Yorkshire. The successful candidate will provide 1:1 support to students with SEMH needs, assist in delivering in-class activities, and work collaboratively with teaching staff to support behaviour, learning, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualised support to students with SEMH needs, promoting their social skills and independent learning.
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering in-class activities, encouraging students to engage with their learning and build confidence.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and implement behaviour management strategies, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, helping them to re-engage with their learning and replace feelings of frustration with a sense of belonging and success.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a school or residential setting.
  • Knowledge of complex needs, associated learning difficulties, and challenging behaviours.
  • Familiarity with behaviour management strategies, such as Team Teach, NAPPI, or MAPPA.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and external professionals, such as counsellors or mental health specialists.
  • An Enhanced DBS (Child Only) registered to the update service or willingness to apply for one via GSL Education.
