Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist Specialist to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Community Division, you will play a vital role in providing rehabilitation-focused occupational therapy services to patients in the Wigan borough.

Main Responsibilities

  • To conduct comprehensive assessments of patients in community settings, identifying their rehabilitation needs and developing effective treatment plans.
  • To work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, social care teams, and patients to achieve optimal outcomes and promote independence.
  • To provide expert advice and guidance on occupational therapy interventions, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and support.
  • To supervise and mentor junior staff, students, and therapy support staff, promoting professional development and excellence in practice.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols, and policies, ensuring that our services are evidence-based and effective.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and other forums, promoting collaboration and communication among healthcare professionals.
  • To maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, ensuring that our services are transparent and accountable.
  • To stay up-to-date with the latest research, best practices, and clinical guidelines, applying this knowledge to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Post-registration experience in rehabilitation and condition management, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality services.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership working.
  • Experience of supervising students and staff from different professions, with a strong understanding of professional development and education.
  • Ability to travel independently within the requirements of the post, with a flexible approach to working hours and service needs.
