Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Community Division in the Wigan borough. As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing rehabilitation-focused services to patients in their own homes and community settings.

Main Duties
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients in community settings to identify their needs and develop effective intervention plans.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and social care teams to ensure seamless care coordination and delivery.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals on occupational therapy interventions and strategies.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff and students to ensure high-quality care and professional development.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of service improvements and quality initiatives within the team.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a source of knowledge for patients presenting with a range of conditions, acquired, congenital, and progressive in nature.
  • Provide advisory and educational services to patients, relatives, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical pathways and protocols within the team.
  • Participate in the planning, evaluation, and audit of practices, clinical pathways, and protocols within the clinical area.
Requirements
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Post-registration experience in rehabilitation and condition management.
  • NHS experience.
  • Experience of working with multi-agencies.
  • Experience of working in an inter-disciplinary team and independently.
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate people and empathize with the challenges of long-term condition management.
  • Good literacy in computer use (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize own caseload.
Knowledge
  • Specialist knowledge in relevant clinical skills and approaches to patient management.
  • Knowledge of research and audit.
  • Working knowledge of Evidence-Based Practice.
