Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced senior psychological therapist to lead our team of mental health professionals in providing high-quality clinical services to staff across the health and social care sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the clinical supervision and line management of assistant psychologists and qualified psychologists/CBT therapists within the team, as well as contributing to the development of our educational, training, outreach, and consultation offer.

We particularly encourage applications from candidates with an interest in supporting healthcare staff, as well as service development and innovative practice.

Main Duties of the Job

To assist in the operational and clinical running of our friendly and innovative staff support service, working with partnership organisations to consider and implement best practice support for healthcare staff.

Person Specification

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Criteria

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counseling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or post-graduate training in another core mental health profession (nursing, occupational therapy) plus a post-graduate diploma or higher degree in CBT.
  • Professional registration with the appropriate Health Professions Council (HPC), if applicable to core professional training.

Desirable Criteria

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training, and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Postgraduate CBT Diploma.

EXPERIENCE

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, and in-patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of supervising psychological interventions.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of the application of CBT in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of working with two distinct psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
  • Experience of working within an IAPT service and delivering to agreed service targets (e.g. clinical contact hours, percentage recovery).
  • Experience of supervising both low-intensity and high-intensity workers within an IAPT service.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential Criteria

  • Skills in the use of complex assessment, intervention, and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical, and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues, both within and outside the NHS.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult-to-treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities or long-term physical health conditions, etc).
  • High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
