Residential Childcare Support Worker

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Apple Orchard. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people in our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide a caring and motivating environment for young people, taking into account their individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, guidelines, and policies, including the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and the national minimum standards.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities and placing authorities to ensure the care provided is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers, supporting young people's learning and development and valuing parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Be flexible within working practices, undertaking domestic tasks as needed, including meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.
Essential Skills:
  • Previous experience working with teenage boys or challenging behavior, with a willingness to further develop skills.
  • Hold a driving license and have access to a vehicle, as public transport is not viable due to the rural location.
  • Hold a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Be able to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets individual needs.
  • Be able to work as part of a team, follow delegated tasks, and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Have effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, and the ability to engage and listen.
