We are seeking a Highly Skilled Simulation Engineer to join our team at Wärtsilä.

This permanent role is based in Havant, but we also offer hybrid working arrangements. The salary for this position is approximately £80,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Job Description

The primary objective of this role within the methods, tools and processes team is to own and lead the Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD)/simulation function within the business.

  • Ensure the provision of timely analytical support to development programs.
  • Develop and roll-out approved, validated methods and software tools.
  • Identify, select and acquire necessary resources (e.g. hardware and software) and champion the development of coherent business cases for investment.
  • Identify and develop the necessary skills base, including supporting any recruitment and training activities.
  • Comply with Export Control requirements.
  • Manage time effectively and possess general organisational skills.
  • Develop knowledge base of product specification and integration within wider team.
  • Work collaboratively within the Engineering and the wider WDSL team.
  • Mentor junior members of the team.
Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • To seek to continuously develop and improve the customer value proposition of shaftline products by means of enhanced engineering processes.
  • To develop and play an influential thought leadership role within the business in relation to CFD/simulation capability and knowledge-based tools development.
  • To pro-actively provide expert technical support and coaching to other teams within the business.
  • To actively promote Wärtsilä QEHS objectives.
  • To ensure that self and other team members develop and maintain world leading skills and competencies.
  • To apply appropriate planning and risk management processes within the project environment to ensure development objectives are met.
  • To raise the CFD/simulation technology and capability profile of the business.
  • To ensure compliance with specific codes and adhere to the Engineering BMS and overall company BMS.
  • To work closely with Systems and Design teams to address CFD requirements related to projects.
  • To record changes according to the BMS.
  • To liaise with project stakeholders, internal and external.
  • To mentor junior staff.
  • To work harmoniously with other company functions.
  • To maintain compliance with all relevant data control requirements.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Naval, Chemical, Aerospace or other Engineering or Scientific disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computing).
  • CEng or working towards.
  • Working experience in the field of Engineering, especially Mechanical, Electrical, Maritime.
  • Mid-Senior Level position.
  • Eligibility for SC level clearance.
