Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

About the Role

The Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service is seeking a highly organized and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Technical Officer. This role involves working in our UKAS accredited calibration laboratories, split between Exeter and Wellington, to calibrate measurement equipment for our Trading Standards staff and external clients.

As a Technical Officer, you will be responsible for accurately testing a range of equipment, from high accuracy weights and scales to capacity measures used for testing petrol pumps. You will also perform supporting administration work, including attracting new business, preparing quotes, and scheduling work. Additionally, you may be required to support Trading Standards Officers during inspections at petrol stations, factories, and similar sites.

About You

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with numbers, able to follow set procedures, and willing to learn quickly. You should be able to work routinely on your own in the laboratories while remaining part of a wider team. The role requires the ability to lift and handle 10kg weights, and you may be required to travel between our sites as needed.

What We Offer

Devon County Council offers a range of benefits, including flexible working arrangements, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a safe and inclusive work environment. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
