Mental Health and Well-being Support Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to provide mental health and well-being support to students with SEMH needs in our secondary schools in Newcastle.

About the Role

This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students who require additional support. As a mental health and well-being support specialist, you will work closely with students, teachers, and other support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to settle into school life and overcome challenges.
  • Assist students in their learning and development, both socially and emotionally, using creative problem-solving skills and a supportive attitude.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure the best possible outcomes for students, using strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships.
Requirements
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health and SEMH needs, ideally in an educational or care setting.
  • Ability to handle situations calmly and sensitively, using empathy and a supportive attitude.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box when supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with students, teachers, and other support staff.
  • Collaborative team player, able to work effectively with staff and external partners.
  • Genuine care for students' academic, emotional, and personal growth, with a strong sense of empathy.
  • Supportive and encouraging attitude to inspire trust and motivate students.
  • Initiative to meet individual student needs based on their communication and learning skills.
  • Proven experience working with young people or vulnerable adults, paid or voluntary.
  • Basic IT skills.
