Financial Controller Job Description

Career Legal is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the finance function, providing financial forecasts, and analyzing business performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the accounts department and team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of SRA procedures and regulatory requirements, including solicitors' accounts rules.
  • Oversight of financial accounting activities, including the production of monthly management information.
  • Preparation of management accounts, cashflow forecasts, and other financial reports for the Board.
  • Work proactively with department heads to minimize WIP balances and maximize fee billing.
  • Management of statutory reporting, including VAT returns, PAYE, and other taxation.
  • Implementation of financial controls and governance, driving continuous improvement of accounting practices.
  • Analysis of financial data and preparation of reports for the Board.
  • Leading the financial planning and annual budgeting processes to optimize financial performance.
Requirements:
  • Relevant qualifications, such as AAT, CIMA, ACCA, or ACS.
  • In-depth knowledge of SRA Accounts rules.
  • Previous experience in the legal sector, either at a similar level or senior support role.
  • Knowledge of payroll and benefit administration.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle complexities and volume of transactions.
  • Leadership qualities.
