About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Accelerator Physicist to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). As a key member of our Novel Beams team, you will play a crucial role in developing the next generation of accelerator technologies to support the ISIS neutron and muon source synchrotron.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement novel accelerator techniques, including Fixed Field Alternating Gradient (FFA) accelerators.
  • Collaborate with international colleagues to develop high-brightness muon beam techniques for materials science and the next-generation collider.
  • Contribute to the development of OPAL, a particle tracking code, and extend its capabilities to simulate the ISIS synchrotron and novel FFA accelerators.
  • Support the operation of the ISIS synchrotron, including gathering data for model validation.
Requirements
  • PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related subject.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts in maths and physics, including particle accelerator simulation.
  • Experience in software development, with a focus on C++ and high-performance computing.
  • Excellent creativity, with an open attitude to new ideas.
  • Strong team working and collaboration skills.
