About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional computational scientist to join our Novel Beams team at UK Research and Innovation. As an Accelerator Physicist, you will play a key role in developing the next generation of accelerator technologies to support our research and the broader accelerator science community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and extend the capabilities of OPAL, a particle tracking code, to simulate the ISIS synchrotron and novel FFA accelerators.
  • Collaborate with our team to explore new accelerator concepts and ideas.
  • Support the operation of the ISIS synchrotron, including gathering data for model validation.
  • Work with our international partners to develop high-brightness muon beam techniques for materials science and the next-generation collider.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related subject.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts in maths and physics.
  • Experience of software development, ideally with C++ and high-performance computing.
  • Excellent creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
