About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Magnet Engineer/Physicist to design, procure and test high-quality accelerator magnets for the Diamond-II project.

  • Carry out 2D and 3D magnetic designs of high-quality accelerator magnets, covering the full range of d.c., a.c. and pulsed magnets, both permanent magnet and electromagnet.
  • Create detailed magnetic/mechanical/electrical procurement specifications.
  • Supervise procurement contracts for the supply of magnets.
  • Set up, operate and maintain high-precision magnetic measurement systems.
  • Undertake magnetic measurement of accelerator magnets and analysis of data to assess field quality.
  • Stay up-to-date with worldwide developments in magnet technology.

The major focus of this role is pulsed magnets, including kickers and septa.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Magnet Engineer/Physicist with a strong background in magnet design, construction and testing, preferably of accelerator magnets.

  • Experience in design, production and testing of high-quality accelerator magnets.
  • Supervision of procurement contracts.
  • Experience of magnetic measurement systems and data analysis.
  • Good basic knowledge of electromagnetism.

You should hold a Degree in Engineering or Physics, or demonstrate significant equivalent experience, with PhD qualified candidates desirable.

You will demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with staff at all levels.
