Continuous Improvement Manager

We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on Continuous Improvement Manager to join our small, dynamic engineering business. This role is perfect for those who thrive in a small business environment and enjoy taking a hands-on approach to their work.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and improve shop floor efficiency by identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Reduce waste, labour inefficiencies, and energy consumption, and optimize resources.
- Drive Health and Safety Improvements by identifying risks and developing preventative measures and implementing best practices that comply with regulatory standards.
- Implement 5C Methodology and Shop Floor Organisation.
- Lead Continuous Improvement Projects ranging from project optimisations and equipment upgrades to employee training initiatives.
- Facilitate Kaizen Events; organise and lead Kaizen or similar improvement workshops to engage employees in identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor and analyse KPIs such as cycle times, productivity, and safety metrics.
- Champion CI culture by providing training and mentorship to build internal capability in CI tools and methodologies.
- Ensure compliance and quality standards are met: ensure that all changes comply with industry standards and customer specifications.
- Communicate and collaborate with leadership, regularly reporting to management on the status of improvements.
- Practical knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and waste reduction strategies.
- Experience leading safety initiatives or collaborating with health and safety teams in a fabrication or manufacturing setting.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple small-scale projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence staff at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on approach to troubleshooting operational challenges.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and the use of metrics to drive decision-making.
- Ability to lead training and development workshops on CI principles and foster employee engagement in improvement initiatives.
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) qualified (or equivalent).
- Familiarity with metal fabrication processes, tools, and equipment.
- Experience working in SME organisations would be highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and shop floor management software (e.g. ERP/MRP systems).
