About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as the Head of Research and Policy. This is a strategic leadership role based in our Strategic Hub, where you will work closely with our senior management team to shape the direction of our research initiatives and investments.

As the Head of Research and Policy, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of our research programme, developing partnerships with government users of data and research, and overseeing the development and delivery of a data policy function. You will also contribute to the development of strategies and activities led by other parts of the SDR UK Hub, including data infrastructures, capability, and public engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shaping and leading a programme of investment to demonstrate the value of smart data research to address real-world challenges
  • Developing partnerships with government users of data and research, connecting government missions and public policy challenges to the capabilities within our infrastructure
  • Overseeing the development and delivery of a data policy function, including scoping and securing appropriate legal and ethical resources for the programme
  • Contributing to the development of strategies and activities led by other parts of the SDR UK Hub, including data infrastructures, capability, and public engagement
About You

We are looking for a strong leader with good strategic judgement who is excited by the opportunities of smart data. You will have experience of working with a range of stakeholders, communicating and influencing effectively with diverse audiences. You will also have a strong understanding of the UK data policy landscape, including governance, legislation, and ethics.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining effective networks with different communities to deliver outcomes. You will also be expected to communicate and influence effectively with a variety of audiences, including government departments, research and innovation communities, and the wider data, AI, and technology landscape.
