The Head of Research and Policy is a strategic leadership position within the UK Research and Innovation's Smart Data Research UK programme. As a key member of the senior management team, you will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the programme, driving innovation, and developing partnerships to advance cutting-edge data science research.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and lead a programme of investment to demonstrate the value of smart data research in addressing real-world challenges.
- Build and maintain effective networks with stakeholders across the UK, including research and innovation communities, government departments, and the wider data and technology landscape.
- Oversee the development and delivery of a data policy function, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Contribute to the development of strategies and activities led by other parts of the Smart Data Research UK programme.
- Lead a small, high-performing team.
We are seeking a strong leader with excellent strategic judgement, experience in working with diverse stakeholders, and a passion for smart data research. You will have a proven track record of driving innovation, building partnerships, and leading high-performing teams.
Essential Criteria- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set clear direction, inspire teams, and shape a work area.
- Highly developed strategic skills, including the ability to map the landscape, identify opportunities, and make effective decisions.
- Experience of building and maintaining effective networks with different communities to deliver outcomes.
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Understanding and experience of the use of data, analysis, or research.
- Understanding and experience of the UK data policy landscape, including governance, legislation, and ethics.
- An understanding of the UK academic funding environment.
