The Head of Excise will provide leadership to the Excise Branch, setting clear strategic priorities and delivering high-quality work for Ministers. This role involves advising and supporting the Chancellor and other ministers on excise tax-related matters, including alcohol duties, tobacco duties, and the Soft Drinks Industry Levy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Excise Branch, setting strategic priorities and supporting staff development.
- Advise and support the Chancellor and other ministers on excise tax-related matters.
- Coordinate the development and delivery of the Vaping Products Duty, engaging with HMRC, DHSC, businesses, and public health partners.
- Develop and advise ministers on strategic reform to excise taxes, contributing to the government's fiscal objectives and broader missions.
- Build collaborative relationships with counterparts and seniors to ensure informed decision-making and effective communication of government objectives and policies.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of complex policy issues, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills. They will be able to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
