Strategic Planning and Development Management Director

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Strategic Planning and Development Management Manager to join our 29 strong Strategic Planning and Development Control Service at East Cambridgeshire District Council.
The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary team covering the local development framework, policy advice, research and development, and development control. They will ensure that the growth of the district is carefully managed to provide high-quality homes, strengthen the local economy, protect and enhance the natural environment, and promote sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- To act as the council's lead on strategic planning, policy development, and development control.
- To oversee the preparation, monitoring, and review of the council's Local Plan and other planning policy documents.
- To lead the council's Development Control service, including the Planning Support Team, Conservation, Enforcement, and Trees.
- To oversee the council's legal case and be the lead witness where appropriate at local inquiries, hearings, and Local Plan examinations.
Requirements
- Educated to Masters level or equivalent.
- Exceptional leadership and management skills.
- Significant experience in town planning and managing multiple major and complex planning applications for residential and commercial development.
- Knowledge of planning policy work, including managing aspects of key policy documents.
- Experience of presenting in public forums, including council committees and at public inquiries and hearings.
- Successful planning appeal record.
