About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Permitting Officer to join our Water Quality team at the Environment Agency. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the environment by determining complex applications and delivering high-quality environmental permitting decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine complex applications for environmental permits, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Deliver pre-application advice and guidance to permit applicants, providing expert technical support.
  • Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines, including water quality, habitats, and wildlife conservation.
  • Support the development and implementation of environmental policies and regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of training programs and coaching/mentoring other Permitting Officers.
Requirements
  • Strong experience and technical competency in water regulation, modelling, or wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge of water quality issues and policies, including the Environmental Permitting Regulations and the Water Resources Act.
  • Experience in coaching/mentoring others in a technical discipline.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with stakeholders, partners, and customers.
