About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Permitting Officer to join our Water Quality team at the Environment Agency. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the environment by determining complex applications and delivering high-quality environmental permitting decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine complex applications for environmental permits, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Deliver pre-application advice and guidance to applicants, providing expert knowledge and support.
  • Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines, including water quality, engineering, and environmental science.
  • Engage with permit applicants, including multinational companies, water and sewerage companies, and individual householders.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to environmental permitting.
Requirements
  • Strong experience and technical competency in water regulation, modelling of sanitary or hazardous pollutants, or wastewater treatment and/or wastewater engineering.
  • Knowledge of water quality issues and policies surrounding them.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring others in a technical discipline.
  • Confidence in challenging, questioning, and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
