About the Role

The Senior Professional Liability Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting direct and/or reinsurance risks within the renewal book and new business within the Professional Indemnity segment.

The team underwrites a range of products, including Professional Indemnity for Construction (Contractors & Engineers) annuals and SPPI, Lawyers, Accountants, Media, Technology E&O & Miscellaneous Professions such as Actuaries, Real Estate professionals, Inspection Firms, etc.

The portfolio consists of excess business involving both lead and follow positions, with geographies of risks worldwide, excluding USA domiciled.

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage an allocation of existing cases within the portfolio
  • Work and coordinate with the existing team in London and Paris
  • Actively market SCOR's Professional Indemnity appetite and capabilities to brokers, corporate clients/risk managers & ceding companies within the European market - both formal and informal environments
  • Seek out and support other team members to find new business opportunities and lines of enquiry with both existing broker base and new broking contacts - demonstrate and evidence pitch winning behavior
  • Assist as required with internal reporting and requests for market intelligence
  • Support new product initiatives and actively research the class, keeping the PI manager informed
  • Underwrite within the SBS Casualty Guidelines and comply with required framework for referrals
  • Manage the administration and processing of the allocated book, including compliance with systems requirements, document storage, accounting, claims & actuarial liaison as required
  • Embrace the global team environment - create networks, knowledge share and cross-sell within the SBS division and the wider P&C treaty business
Requirements

Experience:

  • Experience at a similar level relating to primary, excess or reinsurance underwriting in Professional Indemnity Insurance with focus on the large corporate risk market
  • Knowledge and experience of underwriting Media, Engineers, Contractors, Lawyers, Accountants and Miscellaneous Professions
  • Knowledge of the London and/or USA insurance markets is preferred
  • Ability to manage allocated portfolio of cases with evidence of client retention
  • Good knowledge of the Professional Indemnity class - professions, wordings, trends & market environment
  • Able to develop strong relationships and contacts in the relevant marketplace
  • Proactive management skills of own book - early engagement on renewals, timely responses on new business

Personal Competences:

  • Strong technical/analytical underwriting skills including pricing, wordings and ERM assessment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and able to represent Business solutions/SCOR global P&C at conferences, professional meetings and associations
  • Highly organized, self-motivated individual - track record of working in a busy team environment
  • Team player - strong inter-personal skills
  • Proficient PC Skills - Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required by business needs
