Quantitative Genetics Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantitative Genetics Research Scientist to join our innovative team at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB). As a key member of our Crop Quantitative Genetics team, you will play a pivotal role in driving meaningful research in crop genetics and bioinformatics that supports sustainable agriculture and global food security.
Your primary responsibility will be to design and manage genomic analysis pipelines for genetic mapping and data quality control using R software. You will also analyse large-scale genetic and sequence datasets using bioinformatics and high-performance computing systems. Additionally, you will contribute to experimental design, ensuring robust approaches to studying complex crop traits.
A strong background in quantitative genetics, bioinformatics, plant biology, or a related field is essential. Advanced skills in genetic mapping and statistical genetics, as well as proficiency in R software, are required. Experience with bioinformatics tools, command line systems, and sequence analysis are desirable but not essential.

The salary for this position is £38,227 per annum, depending on experience. The contract is a 3-year fixed term, and working hours are 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday; part-time considered.
