Job Description

Role Purpose and Overview

As a key member of the Telegraph Media Group team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily implementation of our social media strategies, working closely with the editorial team to ensure our content shines on all social media platforms. You will also have the opportunity to create and coordinate social strategies for breaking news and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage Social Media Output: Manage the day-to-day output of the social media editors across our various accounts and platforms, ensuring posts are of the highest quality, on-brand, and optimized.
  2. Develop Social Media Strategy: Develop the Telegraph's social media strategy as a means of promoting, supporting, and maximizing the impact of its editorial content, driving subscriptions, and growing reach and influence.
  3. Assist Head of Social: Assist the Head of Social with devising strategies for Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, TikTok, and emerging platforms and trends, always thinking how to best promote Telegraph stories and content.
  4. Collaborate with Visual Storytelling Teams: Work with visual storytelling teams (video, graphics, data, and design) to create unique, original content that will drive engagement on social media and make the Telegraph stand out against competitors.
  5. Analyze Performance: Use analytics tools to help guide Commissioners across the newsroom.
  6. Support Reporters: Support reporters with training and guidance in growing their own social media communities.

Key Skills

  1. Extensive Social Media Experience: Extensive experience of social media, particularly of Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and X, preferably within a national quality publisher, and experience of subscription models.
  2. Community Engagement: Experience of driving community and engagement through social media, and understanding of what engagement metrics are of importance to a quality publisher.
  3. Digital Storytelling: Extensive experience of different digital storytelling methods as applied to social media, particularly video and graphics.
  4. Industry Trends: Deep understanding of the latest trends in the wider social media landscape, and ability to pivot strategy to accommodate them.
  5. Quality Publishing: Excellent understanding of what constitutes quality digital publishing in a busy editorial environment, and knowledge of what is important to the Telegraph.
  6. Analytics: Understanding of analytics tools, and the ability to make decisions about social media activities based on analytics when appropriate.
