Job Title: Machinery Safety Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Machinery Safety Engineer to join our team at ENGINEERINGUK. As a key member of our High-Risk Operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe design and operation of our cutting-edge technology across our vast array of facilities.

About the Role

The successful candidate will conduct equipment inspections against a pre-determined set of criteria to identify areas for improvement and increase the level of safety. You will require technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards, including PUWER/UWED applications and regulations to meet all European country requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support Amazon facilities by performing suitable and sufficient risk assessments of all relevant machinery and equipment.
  2. Develop solutions that meet Amazon's high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalability, simplicity, and operational excellence.
  3. Engage and manage the involvement of the inspection team with projects, reacting to changes to facilitate attendance for inspections.
  4. Complete the lifecycle of inspection by reviewing corrective measures and implementing controls in the inspection tool.
  5. Provide input to change projects, build-outs, and development projects, and act as a technical machinery advisor for the EU WHS team.
  6. Keep tracking data up-to-date for the inspection program and plan and arrange own travel applying frugality and efficiency of time on sites.
Requirements
  1. Experience in a similar role of machinery inspection.
  2. In-depth understanding of the EU Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and its relevant harmonized standards.
  3. Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments.
  4. Demonstrable record of managing machinery safety inspections across large multi-site businesses.
  5. Credibility and ability to effectively engage and influence other functional leaders and their teams to build buy-in to EU Health and Safety strategies and change processes.
  6. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based tools to support system engineering and briefing/proposal development activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience of working for a Notified or Approved body for Machinery Safety.
  2. Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent, preferably gained in a low-margin, high-volume environment with warehousing and logistics beneficial.
  3. Formal training certification in Machinery Safety (such as CMSE).
  4. TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer.
  5. Experience interacting with cross-functional teams and managing projects with minimal supervision.
